Shared a great ham dinner with family before they head off to Australia tomorrow. Made these cookies for everyone to have at their place at the table.
Also made this very yummy, white chocolate raspberry snowflake cake. Boy was it good!

The Birds Of McAllister
As you may or may not know, I belong to a group of ladies who all exercise at the Port Coquitlam Curves fitness studio. Our nickname is "The Birds Of McAllister" and as a group we fund raise throughout the year for different charities.
Each spring we collect food and toiletries which the group then donates to a local transition house. This year we challenged the Port Alberni Curves to collect more than us. As an added incentive the losers would have to pose for a "tastefully" nude calendar. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar would be donated to charity!
Well despite collecting 2428 pounds we lost the challenge, but only by 107lbs. A loss is still a loss, so with the help of Classic White Photography. our 2012 calendar, featuring " The Birds Of McAllister", was born.
I was a participant in the photo shoot , check out "Mrs November". So with that in mind, I am putting a call out to all my readers to help sell some calendars. Check out The Birds for more information about our group and calendar orders.
All proceeds from the sales go to two local charities in our area: Tri-City Transition House and the Learning Disabilities Association Girls Programs.
We had a calendar launch party at Samz Pub on Nov 13 and sold 54 calandars and raffled off a tray of decorated corset cookies.
Thank you for your support.

Benefit Fiesta For Project Somos
I attended Benefit Fiesta fund raiser for Project Somos last week at Heritage Hall in Vancouver. Project Somos is not only building a Children's Village but is also helping to build a better future for orphaned children of Guatemala.
To help support the effort of this wonderful cause, I baked a batch of Project Somos logo cookies to sell at the event. Along with the cookies, I also donated a flower bouquet as one of the raffle prizes.

Sweet Movie Night
There is nothing sweeter than baking for kids to help kids! This week I have been making special cookies for an upcoming fundraiser for The Gaby Davis Foundation, which helps families with a child going through cancer. They have helped over 30 families since setting up the charity in 2007 to honor 7yr old Gabrielle Davis who sadly lost her own battle with cancer. During treatment Gaby knew how fortunate she and her family were to have support from friends and extended family, but also saw how financially difficult life can be on those who don't have help. Gaby witnessed a parent break down in the hospital pharmacy because he could not afford the medication for his child.
I am delighted to be donating cookies that will be sold at their "Finding Nemo - Retro Family Movie Night" being held at Coquitlam River Elementary on November 4th. Doors open at 6:30pm and movie starts at 7pm. Be sure to reserve your ticket by calling 604-464-GABY (4229). DON'T FORGET TO BUY A COOKIE at the concession.

Pretty In Pink
As most everyone knows, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In support of this the Curves I go to everyday is sponsoring a "Buy a Cookie for Breast Cancer Awareness" campaign. As you can imagine it did not take much convincing for me to bake the Pink Ribbon Cookies for this worthy cause.

Treats For Terry
My little friend set up a lemonade stand at her school to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation. So I made 280 Terry cookies to give away with her lemonade. She raised $117 that day. I still had cookies left over so I attended the Terry Fox School Fundraiser. It was a Zumba class to raise money for the Foundation.
Well all the Terry cookies are now gone, Thanks to the Terry Fox High School and the Trail River Run . All in all we had a great time and even managed to raise some money for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Christening Day
Sunday was my Grandson's baptism at St Clare of Assisi Church in Coquitlam and another great excuse to get baking to honor him. He wore his Dad's and his Oma's christening gown, so the cookies matched him perfectly.
It was a special weekend for a very special baby, who is just as sweet as the cookies I enjoyed baking for him. Something tells me that I'll be baking a few more for him in the future! Yum!
The cake was made by a yummy bakery in town, but I made the cross. |

Baby Shower
Well, I'm usually pretty excited about my cookies, but this weekend the excitement was all about my new Grandson. We had a baby shower for him and my daughter Lori on Saturday. Of course I made cookies as favors for all the ladies that came - cute little blue and white onesies.

Feeling The Love
Baking cookies is so much fun, but seeing the joy on those faces covered in cookie crumbs as they enjoy them is even better. Here are two little friends of mine who were enjoying some of my cookies when I went for a visit the other day. It's so nice to feel appreciated!

New Baby Grandson
We are very excited to announce the arrival of our first Grandchild. Mason TJ Moffat Vandebeek made his big debut on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 4:08am, weighing 7lbs 15oz and measuring 20.5 inches.

For the new family I created a very special cookie cake. The "cake" itself is made from disposable diapers, which I am sure they will find a use for, and for the decorations I used every baby themed cookie cutter I could find. Something sweet for the parents to pass out as well.

Sending Summer In A Box
My daughter may be on the other side of our continent these days, but it doesn't mean I can't still spoil her. Here are some wonderfully summer treats that I just sent her way. While I can't really claim to have been too inspired by our summer here for these, they are a great reminder of summer spent with my daughters at our cabin, enjoying lots of sun, wearing shorts and flip flops as we smelled the flowers and took a dip in the lake! Ahhh!

The Flip Side Of Food!
Inspired by the more summery weather we've finally seen, I baked up a batch of flip flops and have enjoyed sharing these little tastes of summer with my friends. What better way to capture the lazy days of summer than open toes, flowers and ladybugs! Ahh! The good news is that if the weather lets us down again ( like yesterday-what rain!), then flip flops are also the perfect shoe for water too AND as cookies they still work well with a mug of hot chocolate - I know, where did July just go? Hopefully the sun will be back out again soon though and maybe then I can do sun hats or shades to go with the flip flops!

Calendar Girls
Had a very busy morning delivering some much needed treats for my friends at Curves. These ladies helped so much with our charity calendar photo-shoot. We were photographed for a (very tasteful) nude calendar that is going to be a fundraiser for a local women's shelter. It turned out to be a particularly fun experience thanks to the superb organizing skills of Kim and Elizabeth. Also many thanks to Raylene for doing our hair, Jane for doing the make-up, and Paige for helping to make sure we looked good. You all made us look and feel beautiful. And especially thank you to Classic White Photography for doing our photos.

Donation To Canuck Place
During the Canuck run this season I managed to bake and distribute many, many dozen jersey cookies. Along with the jerseys I put together 3 jersey bouquets which were raffled for charity. After the raffles the only thing left was to decide which charity to donate the funds raised. It really wasn’t much of a decision and on Friday I made a trip to Canuck Place to drop off the proceeds. I also had one final batch of the jersey cookies that I took with me for the kids to enjoy. The staff were very appreciative of the donation and were excited when they realized I was the Olympic mitten cookie lady.
